DATV Announces Cancellation of CITY CONQUEST's Broadcast on March

After the news in Korea that CC will stop shooting, I was thinking how will DATV air it. But now, they decided to post this notice.

It's a pity though... but as what I have said before, we can all move on and hope for better things to come.

Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong is in the process of withdrawing from the cast of ‘City Conquest‘. The drama ran into problems earlier this month with a rejection from KBS.

His agency Key East Entertainment announced, “We’re in the process of wrapping up [Kim Hyun Joong's] leave from the drama… We’re rescheduling the events previously put aside for ‘City Conquest’, and for now, he’ll start his promotions as a singer with his Japan tour, world tour, and more.”

The label also added that Kim Hyun Joong is planning to star in a drama later this year, and that they’re currently in the midst of reviewing offers.

Actors Nam Goong Min and Jung Yu Mi are discussing their withdrawal from the drama as well.

[News] KBS and Producers Clash Over the Issue of ′City Conquest′

(Credits: Media Portal)
Eng Trans: enewsworld.mnet.com

KBS and Media Back, production company of the drama City Conquest, have entered a conflict over the reason the channel will not yield a time slot to the drama. Media Back has been saying the channel isn′t yielding for political reasons, while KBS has strongly denied the claims.

Media Back said through a press release on January 31, “The executives of the KBS drama center said the reason we were not given a time slot was because, though the quality of the drama′s content and its business value is high, its violence does not fit the mood of the launch of Korea′s new government.

City Conquest is about the lead Baek Mir′s fight against the social evils that led his family to ruin.

It added, “We listened to the opinions of the executives while we tried to reach an agreement on the issue, and replaced our screenwriters and actors, and edited our scripts despite the loss it brought to our production costs. Soon after, however, a new president was appointed to KBS and he replaced the drama center executives, after which we were told through an unofficial route, as if they were tossing us aside, that we would not be getting a time slot.

It then touched on the issue of the drama Iron King, saying, “The issue of the drama Iron King, which sparked much debate before the Presidential elections last year, has been brought up again in the time slot discussions, showing that [the channel] is trying too hard to show its loyalty to the new government. City Conquest′s deadline to get a time slot was to last through 2013, but the sudden new decisions that were made at the first meeting with the new executives show that KBS is being tyrannical. We also wish to question whether the new executives of the drama center are qualified to work for KBS, which is supposed to be a public broadcasting system.”

Iron King had previously been pitched into a giant controversy regarding its subject matter, as it seemed the drama would glorify former President Park Chung Hee, the father of current President-elect Park Geun Hye, as its story unravelled.

Media Back then added that the drama had already signed a contract to be sold at a hefty amount to Japan, and that it was expected to draw more profit and attention from a variety of countries around the world, supporting the competitive edge the drama has.

KBS soon answered the press release with a notice of its own, posting its stance on its official webpage.

The channel said, “We have held four meetings regarding the issue of City Conquest, and looked over it with care. We have continuously asked the drama for feedback on its quality, following our decision to wait before giving it a time slot.

It added, “After looking through the recent scenario and plot, however, we have decided that it is not very competitive, and contains too much violence as well as other issues unfit to air in a public broadcasting channel. This is why we made the decision to deny it a time slot.”

KBS then mentioned that in an initial document handed to the producers, which showed KBS intended to allot a time slot to the drama, it was specifically stated that a time slot would be denied if the script turned out to be uncompetitive. It added it would take strict measures against the claims taken up on the part of Media Back that defamed the channel.

City Conquest stars Kim Hyun Joong, and is based on a Korean manga of the same title.

Its both surprising yet sad that these photos are released yet, the articles that come with it on the Korean portals isn't quite giving positive news on the final decision. Im still quite confused.

I really hope KEYEAST will make an official statement on this. The news have been out for a while now. At least we should also hear from them right? They cant continue to be mum about it right?

The new drama series City Conquest, which stars Kim Hyun Joong, will not air on the three major TV channels in Korea (KBS, MBC, and SBS).

On December 14, a staff member from the Drama Department in KBS reported, “KBS has recently decided not to air City Conquest.”

The staff member said, “Media Baek, a production company of City Conquest, recently expressed its intention to air the series on KBS. We’ve considered it from various angles, but we thought the series doesn’t suit KBS and declined it.”

Some of officials from the broadcasting industry say, “The production company of City Conquest has also expressed its intention to air the series on MBC and SBS, but the TV stations have decided not to schedule them to air on their channels. The reason is that the content and the production cost of the series are not acceptable for the major TV channels. As far as we know, the shooting of the series has been stopped.”

City Conquest is an action drama series about Baek Mir (played by Kim Hyun Joong) taking revenge on the society that has ruined him and his family.

The series has attracted a lot of attention by starring Kim, Jung Yumi, Nam Goong Min, Kim Seung Woo, Kim Young Ho, Kim Hee Won, Park Hyo Joon, and Choi Chul Ho.

Hallyu star Kim Hyun Joong's new drama 'City Conquest' will return shooting starting this December. According to one of the drama's promoter, she wrote that the team will resume shooting despite the cold weather.
"Even though City Conquest will start shooting next month, I'm kinda worried about the actors and staffs' health because they will be shooting in the middle of a cold weather."
"I'm planning to bring miso soup and hot packs to keep them warm."
"Korea will be hit by the cold wave 1st time in 20 years! Looks like the first snow already came down yesterday night. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch it. However, I still went out and had fun with the snow. I had soju and hot pot (food). It's really getting cold in Korea. But I will get over with this cold weather with my hot pot and floor heating."

'City Conquest' started shooting early this July from several places in Japan and Korea. Some of the casts already gave up their current project to give focus filming this drama.
